How to Enable Auto Excerpts in WordPress

1. Open the 'Posts' section on the left side of the WordPress dashboard, then click 'Posts' to view a list of your website's published posts. Click the 'Edit' link under the post that you want to modify. Alternatively, click 'Add New' to compose a new post.
2. Remove the contents of the 'Excerpt' box below the post editing area to eliminate the post's manual excerpt.

3. Scroll to the post editing area, then click to place the cursor on the line below what you feel is the post's most important content. Click the 'Insert More Tag' button at the top of the post editor, shaped like two pieces of paper with a dotted line in between. To have WordPress generate an automatic excerpt starting from the beginning of the post, skip this step.
4. Click the 'Update' or 'Publish' button at the top of the post editing page.
